Getting the BEST Annuity deal - Use Your Open Market Option.

You can choose who you purchase your annuity from. So if, for example, the type of retirement income you require is not available from your current pension provider, or you simply prefer to be with another provider, you can purchase your annuity from them, usually without penalty. You may find that another provider could also offer you a higher level of income. This is called 'using the open market option'.

Best Deals.

You can get an idea of who the top annuity providers are in different categories from the money sections of the national press. You are free to shop around and you can either go to another provider direct or contact an independent financial adviser (IFA) if you need advice.

Annuity Rates.

These can vary considerably between providers. Even within one provider, the rates can differ according to the annuity options you choose. The top provider for one set of options may not come out on top for another set. Again the best way to find out is to contact an Independent Financial Adviser - here

Pension Size.

Some providers may only accept pension funds above a certain value, and the minimum will also vary between providers. For example Prudential's minimum for a guaranteed pension annuity and inflation proof annuity is £10,000 after tax-free cash. If your total pension fund from all sources is small, you may not be able to use the open market option because of this size restriction.
